Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante could miss 2022 FIFA World Cup after relapsing from hamstring injury
Chelsea midfielder and French international N’Golo Kante could miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup next month after relapsing from his hamstring injury, according to L’Equipe (h/t Daily Mail).
Kante suffered the injury in August during his side’s game at home against Tottenham Hotspur. While the match ended 2-2, the 31-year-old has not featured for either club or country since then.
The midfielder returned to training at Cobham at the end of September but has still missed all four games for the club this month in all competitions.
Now, the French news outfit has claimed that the midfielder has suffered a relapse from his injury. They believe that the 31-year-old could sit out the next five games for the Blues.
This puts his place in the French national team in jeopardy. French head coach Didier Deschamps is due to name his World Cup in less than three weeks.
Kante will need to prove that he is fit enough to travel with the squad for the prestigious tournament before that. The midfielder played a pivotal part in the last World Cup when he helped his country win the cup in 2018 after their 4-2 win against Croatia.
Graham Potter would also love to have the midfielder back in the squad. The 31-year-old is yet to play under the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager since his appointment last month.

Kante’s fitness issues have been a major reason why some think that Chelsea are better off letting him leave next summer as a free agent rather than giving into his demand of handing him a long-term deal.
