Mason Mount was the man of the hour for Chelsea against Aston Villa last weekend. The west London club were favourites to win and did so with a score of 2-0, courtesy of a brace from the 23-year-old.
His goals were the first two for him this season in all competitions. However, the midfielder was mentally strong and knew that he would find the back of the net.
Speaking after the game as quoted in Metro, the 23-year-old revealed that he knew how to deal with his goalless streak.
“You never want to start the season without scoring for that long but it happened to me last season, so I know how to deal with it. I don’t want it to happen but it doesn’t bother me too much. I’m mentally strong, I stuck at it, and eventually in my head I’m thinking they’re going to come.”
The midfielder seems to have found a spark since Graham Potter was appointed as the head coach for the west London club. The England international has started all six games under him in all competitions.
Mount has scored two goals and assisted another five since the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager took over the helm of the club. And the 23-year-old was simply at his best against Villa last weekend.
He gave his side the lead just after six minutes after taking advantage of a defensive error. The England international looked threatening throughout and sealed all three points for his side with a peach of a free-kick in the 65th minute.
Chelsea are currently fourth on the table with 19 points. Mount is in contention to start the game against Brentford this Wednesday and fans will hope that the Cobham graduate is again on the scoresheet.
