Joao Santos reveals that negotiations with Chelsea are a ‘priority’ for Jorginho
Joao Santos, the agent of Jorginho has revealed that negotiations with Chelsea for a contract extension is the ‘priority’ for the player. He revealed this while speaking to Tutto Mercato Web (h/t Football. London).
“We are due in June. We prioritise Chelsea and we are moving towards it. Another priority for Jorginho is to do well with the national team.”
The Italian international sees his current contract expire next summer and looks like a new deal could be on the cards. However, Barcelona along with Juventus are believed to be interested in the 30-year-old.
Jorginho moved to west London in 2018 from Italian side SSC Napoli for £50 million. Rivals Manchester City were also interested in the midfielder but ultimately decided to pull out of the deal.
Since his move, the Italian has established himself as a key member of the Blues midfield. The 30-year-old has played 200 games for the club in all competitions, scoring 28 goals in the process.
A Champions League winner with the club, he has also featured in all 12 games this season in all competitions. He has been incredible for the Blues over the years and has established a phenomenal partnership with N’Golo Kante in the middle of the park.
The midfielder still has a lot to offer and it would be wise for the west London club to offer the 30-year-old a new deal. If they do not want to, they should look to sell him in January rather than lose him for free next summer.
