“In that position”- Chelsea attacker urged to follow Timo Werner out of the club if playing time doesn’t increase

Jamie Carragher urges Christian Pulisic to follow Timo Werner out of Chelsea

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has urged Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic to follow Timo Werner and leave the club in January if his playing time does not improve.

Werner, who joined the Blues in the summer of 2020, struggled to establish himself in the team. The striker was inconsistent in front of goal and two years later was sold back to RB Leipzig this summer.

Pulisic, on the other hand, moved to west London from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 for £58 million. The winger too has since then struggled to establish himself in the team and has been on and off the first team the past four years.

The USMNT captain has struggled for game time this season, despite his minutes improving under Graham Potter. The 24-year-old has played 13 times this season in all competitions so far but has started in only three of them.

And now, former Liverpool defender Carragher believes that the American international should look to secure new pastures if his game time does not improve at west London. Speaking on CBS Sport (h/t Irish Mirror), the former defender gave his suggestion.

“It looks like he’s getting more of a chance with Potter, but not just him, I think Graham Potter is a manager who changes it every game so everyone is getting a chance. But he’s been there a few years now, it hasn’t quite happened for him for whatever reason, and maybe Dortmund is a level down from Chelsea, who are a team who are trying to win the Champions League – we know Pulisic was part of that win. But eventually you have to make that decision. I don’t think you can continue to be in that position that he’s been in for the last two or three years.”

Pulisic has struggled on the pitch whenever he has been given a chance. Plus, the arrival of Raheem Sterling coupled with the discovery of form for Mason Mount and Kai Havertz has not helped the American’s case and has instead pushed him down the pecking order.

More Chelsea News:

It remains to be seen if the winger can establish himself in the team. Every player likes to play as much as possible, but the manager has to field his best possible eleven for every game to win it. His game time has improved and maybe with a little more hard work, the winger can become a regular first-team player.
