Chelsea boss Graham Potter was full of praise and hailed the potential of Carney Chukwuemeka after the 19-year-old had an impressive cameo in a goalless draw against Brentford last night.

The former Aston Villa youngster came on in the 62nd minute for Mason Mount. Although the 19-year-old could not provide the elusive goal, his performance off the bench was very exciting to watch.

Potter too was impressed with the England Under-20 star and the gaffer believes that the midfielder has a very exciting potential, as quoted in the Evening Standard.

“He’s a young player, but he’s got exciting attributes. We just need to help him reach his potential because his potential is exciting.”

Chukwuemeka joined the Blues this summer from Villa in a deal worth £20 million. The 19-year-old is yet to start a game for the west London club, though he has come on off the bench on two separate occasions.

Along with Cesar Casadei, another new arrival from Inter Milan, the former Villa man is seen as the future of the club’s midfield. With N’Golo Kante and Jorginho seeing their contracts expire next summer, these youngsters are seen as their potential successors.

Potter will no doubt look to provide more game-time to the 19-year-old midfielder. He is not far from starting a game and everyone who saw his performance against the Bees knows that.
