Graham Potter hits back at Brighton fans who booed on his return

Graham Potter has hit back at the Brighton & Hove Albion fans who booed on his return

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has hit back at the Brighton & Hove Albion fans who booed at him on his return to the Amex stadium. The Blues were completely outplayed as the Seagulls thrashed them 4-1.

The 47-year-old Englishman had a nightmare return to his former club. The Sussex-based club were 3-0 up at half-time, courtesy of a goal from Leandro Trossard and own goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Trevoh Chalobah.

Kai Havertz pulled one back for his side at the start of the second half, but Pascal Gross made it 4-1 in injury time and sealed all three points for his side.

Potter, however, was booed upon his arrival at the stadium and once again when he walked back towards his dugout. Speaking after the game as quoted in Metro, the former Brighton manager said that he has nothing to be sorry for.

“‘I have nothing to say sorry for, I’ve nothing to apologise for. I did a good job, you can see the team’s a good team. Took over when they were fourth from bottom in the Premier League, third probably worst team. There’s a lot of money been raised in terms of player sales and there’s a lot of good players on the pitch. I hope for their sake the next manager does as good a job and that’s as brilliant for them.”

The Englishman made the move to west London this September after Thomas Tuchel was sacked and remained unbeaten till now in all competitions. This was his first defeat as Chelsea boss after having gone undefeated in nine previous games.

It was really surprising to see the Chelsea boss get the treatment that he received at the seaside club. Under him, the Seagulls became one of the trickiest opponents to play against and they did give the top teams a good run for their money.

Marc Cucurella, who also joined Chelsea in the summer from Brighton was subject to jeers from the home fans every time he touched the ball. The left-back started the game but had a tough time on the pitch before he was taken off in the 64th minute.

More Chelsea News:

It was disappointing to see how Potter was treated after he has done so much for the club. Focus now shifts to the Champions League as the Blues prepare to host Dinamo Zagreb this Wednesday for their final group-stage encounter.
