Chelsea told to ‘wait’ if they want to appoint former Liverpool backroom member

Chelsea will have to wait if they want to hire Michael Edwards

According to a tweet thread from Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports, Chelsea will have to wait if they want to hire former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards. They have not ruled out the possibility of appointing him despite no guarantees.

Edwards left his role at Liverpool this summer and went on a sabbatical. Even though the Blues made a lucrative offer, he remained intent on seeing out his break from football rather than breaking it in between. He was blown away by the project at Chelsea though.

The Blues on the other hand, although are looking at other candidates to fill up their vacant sporting director role, are not ruling out the prospect of hiring Edwards. They are willing to wait as the initial rejection arrived because of the bad timing of the offer, not the offer itself.

Moreover, with the arrival of Christopher Vivell imminent as a technical director, there seems to be no rush within the club hierarchy to hire a sporting director now itself.

Co-owner Todd Boehly spent the summer transfer window working as an interim sporting director to get the player deals over the line. It is revealed that the American is enjoying this role and is keen to continue in January if needed.

Chelsea should do everything to hire Michael Edwards whenever he is available to work.

Chelsea are expected to do a lot of hiring in the background in the coming weeks and months. After the arrival of Vivell, whose role is not yet defined at the club as of yet, the club of course are always on the lookout for a sporting director. They could also find a room for a sporting-minded chief executive, who would act as a mediator between the directors at the club and the owners.

More Chelsea News:

A lot can still happen in these things. There is no doubt that Edwards is one of the best sporting directors in Europe. The willingness to wait for him could turn out to be a better idea. Whenever he is next available to work, hope to be soon, the club should do their best to get him.
