According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea won’t give up on the transfer move for Arsen Zakharyan despite complications and the fact that they have been left frustrated thus far.
The Blues agreed to a £12.6m deal during the summer transfer window, but the move did not materialise due to the FIFA and UEFA regulations on signing Russian players because of the sanctions on the country.
Zakharyan has been in talks to change his citizenship from Russian to Armenian to make his move to Stamford Bridge a possibility. However, the Football Federation of Armenia has denied any contact with the player or his representatives.
Chelsea would try to go again and meet the 19-year-old’s release clause for a move in January but are yet to find a breakthrough in their talks.
The positive is that the player is interested in moving to London and hopes for the sanctions to ease up soon. This is good news for the Blues as they can use his preference to push this move through as soon as possible.
Zakharyan is one of the best young talents in Europe and one of the best players in the Dinamo Moscow side. The club academy product has three goals and five assists in 17 appearances this season, playing mostly as an attacking midfielder.
The 19-year-old has excellent quality on the ball, can create chances, dictate games in possession and works hard without the ball. He can also play as a wide midfielder or as one of the advanced central midfielders.
Chelsea have spent good money on youngsters in the summer transfer window when they signed Omari Hutchinson, Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei. Last month, they offered young striker Armando Broja a new six-year deal.
Zakharyan is another talent that the Blues rightly earmarked to spend money on. Whenever the complications are over with, the Blues should have a gem on their hands.
