Chelsea looking to complete two transfers from Bundesliga before January transfer window

Chelsea looking to finalise the signings of Christopher Nkunku and Josko Gvardiol before January

According to Sky Germany (h/t Express), Chelsea are looking to finalise the deals to sign RB Leipzig duo Christopher Nkunku and Josko Gvardiol before the start of the January transfer window.

The Blues wanted to sign the pair in the summer window itself, but couldn’t do it because they signed new deals with the German side.

The West London club are now hopeful that they will sign them in the New Year, or at least agree on deals to get them in the summer.

A few days back, Leipzig agreed on a deal with Chelsea to let Nkunku go in the next summer, with the Blues prepared to pay more than the player’s release clause of £52.8m, as per the Guardian. The Blues made a progress in the deal by doing a private medical of the Frenchman in Germany as well.

It is revealed that the forward will sign a five-year deal with the club, which will be valid from next summer onwards. It would be interesting to see whether they will push to get him in January itself. Gvardiol is expected to follow suit and arrive at the club soon.

Co-owner Todd Boehly has been in constant talks with Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff ahead of the January transfer window. The two clubs have already done business when Chelsea let go of Timo Werner back to the German club in the summer after two troublesome years at Stamford Bridge.

Boehly spent £250m in the summer to add quality to the squad in a bid to get the Blues challenging for the big trophies again. Thomas Tuchel was the manager then. The co-owner will give new manager Graham Potter the same financial backing, starting in January.

More Chelsea News:

We should credit the way the American is willing to do what it takes to help the manager build a team worth challenging for titles. Pressure will be on Potter to deliver the results soon though, and he has made an excellent start to life as a Chelsea manager so far.
