Journo says Chelsea rejected Bayern Munich’s summer approach for 23-year-old star

Chelsea forward Kai Havertz rejected summer approach from Bayern Munich

According to Bundesliga journalist Christian Falk via Twitter, German champions Bayern Munich asked the agents of Chelsea forward Kai Havertz for a possible transfer. The answer was a straight no.

It would have been understandable why the Munich-based side were looking to sign Havertz, having lost their talismanic number nine, Robert Lewandowski, to Barcelona.

But, the former Bayer Leverkusen man has decided to stay at Chelsea and continue his chapter in west London for another season at the least.

Havertz is under contract with the Blues until the summer of 2025, having signed a five-year deal when he joined them back in 2020 (Transfermarkt).

His goal-scoring form in the last 18 months hasn’t been great. He has scored only 14 goals in 53 league and Champions League appearances since the start of last season till date.

However, the 23-year-old’s overall game is still of high quality. With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang now leading the line, the pressure might not be on Havertz to shoulder the burden of scoring.

Although he may be searching for his best role under Graham Potter, the player has enough quality and potential to come good consistently very soon.

Moreover, Potter is probably one of the best coaches at finding the best positions for the players. If he can do that with Havertz and give him a specific role, we could see the best of the German week in and week out.

Chelsea fans will never forget the second half of the 2020/21 season though, where he led the line and scored the winning goal in the Champions League final. He reminded us all of his quality by scoring a stunner against RB Salzburg on Tuesday to help the team win the game and their group.

Turning down Bayern is a big thing for a German player. It shows that he is committed to Chelsea and wants to do his best here. That can be taken as positive signs from the 23-year-old.
