Chelsea considering a move to sign 20-year-old striker with 22 senior goals to his name

Atletico Madrid join AC Milan in the race to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja

According to Calciomercato (h/t Football.London), Spanish side Atletico Madrid have joined Serie A champions AC Milan in the race to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

The report reveals that Atletico boss Diego Simeone is aiming for an overhaul of his forward line following an underwhelming start to the season that saw them crash out of the Champions League in the group stage and fall eight points behind league leaders Real Madrid.

Chelsea are slowly becoming aware of the fact that teams are looking at Broja, with Milan chief Frederic Massara already speaking to the striker’s representatives in recent weeks.

Despite signing a new six-year deal last month, the 21-year-old could head out of west London in January or next summer. He was constantly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer after a successful loan spell at Southampton last season. The Blues have set an asking price of £30m.

Broja has struggled for game time this season. He has made a total of 14 appearances in all competitions, but only one has come from the start. Irrespective of Chelsea boss Graham Potter rotating his squad heavily to navigate the tough schedule, the Albanian international hasn’t got that many starts or minutes under his belt as he might have expected.

So, nobody at Chelsea could blame him if he wants to leave the club to play regular football elsewhere. In terms of quality, the 21-year-old has good physical strength, can run the channels, is good aerially and is a decent finisher.

More Chelsea News:

He would be an ideal addition to either Atletico or Milan. Simeone has done well when he is a striker who can hold the ball up and be physically strong against centre-backs. In a counter-attacking system, Broja could work wonders under the Argentine’s tutelage.
