AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori has admitted that his Chelsea exit last summer was a ‘weird one.’ The 24-year-old joined the Italian giants for £24 million.
Tomori spent the second half of last season on loan at Milan and flourished. The Serie A giants then exercised an option to sign him permanently after his loan spell expired.
Now, while speaking to Express Sports the England international opened up about his exit from the west London club.
“It was a weird one. 2020 was a difficult year for everyone with Covid, but talking personally for me I would have liked to be on the pitch more. That didn’t happen for whatever reason, and I was itching to play. Milan gave me the opportunity and now I’m here. Seeing familiar faces, I can show how I’ve developed, and going to Stamford Bridge and playing in that game is another chance to show myself again.”
Chelsea will host the Italian champions this Wednesday for their third Champions League group-stage game. While the Rossoneri are at the top of the table with four points, the Blues sit at the bottom with one point.
Graham Potter will go into this game knowing that if his side drops more points, they could be struggling to qualify for the Round of 16. Milan won their last game 3-1 against Empoli and will come to London in good form.
The Blues also won their last game 2-1 against Crystal Palace and will hope to claim three points on Wednesday too. Tomori, who has played in all of the 10 games for the Milan-based club this season in all competitions, is likely to start against his former club.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on the scoresheet in the last game and that should serve as a boost to the striker. He joined the Blues on deadline day from Barcelona and the former Arsenal captain is likely to lead the attack against the Italian club tomorrow.
It remains to be seen if Chelsea can secure all three points. Should Tomori have a good game against his former club, questions could be asked about his departure. Fans will hope that is not the case and their side wins comfortably.
