AC Milan retain their interest in Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek for a possible January move
As per Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Football.London), Serie A champions AC Milan retain their interest in Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek for a possible move in the January transfer window.
Inter Milan were interested in securing the services of the Englishman in the summer but were put off by the £17m asking from the Blues and wanted to make a loan offer, but nothing materialised.
A few days back, it was revealed that AC Milan have expressed their interest to sign Loftus-Cheek, with technical director Paulo Maldini informing the Chelsea hierarchy about this.
The England international’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2024, so there are obvious talks about his future and whether he would stay in West London beyond the 2023/24 season. Well, he could be on his way in the coming January itself, with Milan potentially looking to make a move to sign him.
Loftus-Cheek is a high-quality player, who may sometimes struggle for consistency, but has the game and flexibility to go very far in the game. He can play in multiple positions, be it in central midfield, wing-back or as an advanced midfielder behind the striker.
Due to injuries in midfield, the 26-year-old has appeared in every league game so far this season, even at times as a wing-back. He is finally starting to show consistency and repaying the faith shown by the manager.
The current situation of Chelsea’s midfield, both injury and depth-wise shouts of a situation where they would be naive to let him go in January unless they have a replacement ready in the market.

It would not be a bad ploy to offer the club academy product a new deal as well. The player is showing his worth in this team and the manager seems to trust him in most games now. We all know how talented he is and it makes little sense to let him go, especially when he is performing so well.
