Report: Tuchel requested for more time in a 10-minute sack call from owners

Thomas Tuchel requested for time in a 10-minute sack call from the owners

According to the Sun (h/t Metro), in a 10-minute conference call from the Chelsea owners which concluded with his sacking, Thomas Tuchel pleaded for more time to work with this newly-assembled squad. But none of it was provided which shocked the German.

The now former Blues boss reported for duty on Wednesday morning, hours after the defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia in the Champions League. But, there was no one to greet him on the training ground. He was subsequently ushered to attend a conference call from the owners, which concluded with him getting the sack.

Tuchel almost acted as the director of football during the summer transfer window, in which the club spent around £280m, and brought in most players wanted by the German.

Tuchel pleaded for time but got none of it from the owners.

Keeping that in mind, it makes this sacking decision even more baffling that a week from the transfer deadline, the manager, who gravely contributed to the making of this squad, gets no time to work with them.

Results and performances were below-par, though it is still only seven games into the season. To be fair to Tuchel, three of the signings were completed on or just before the deadline day of the transfer window. So, there are players new to the surroundings who need time with the manager to learn the system and implement it on the pitch.

No part of this decision makes any sense from a balanced viewpoint. The manager has done so well to lead this team to Champions League and Club World Cup glory in the recent past. This start of the season was the first real stutter in his reign and there was no time given to turn it around.

Now, for Chelsea’s sake, the hope is that the owners make the right decision with the appointment of the new manager. They have to make sure that the person replacing Tuchel is able enough to handle the pressure of a big club and can produce results in the short and long term.

After the summer we’ve had, fans would want this to be a season where we go for trophies rather than treat it as a season of transition.
