According to a tweet from Fabrizio Romano, young Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah could leave Chelsea in the January transfer window to play more games. He is still hoping to make that happen at Stamford Bridge, but that would be the reason he leaves the club.
German side RB Leipzig and Italian giants Inter Milan and AC Milan were interested in signing the 23-year-old in the summer but Chelsea decided to keep him.
The latest revelations regarding Chalobah’s future are that AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho is interested in signing him in January.
The England U-21 international has had previous experience of going abroad to spend a season on loan. He spent the 2020/21 season playing for French side FC Lorient, making 29 league appearances.
Prior to that, the 23-year-old spent a season each at Huddersfield Town and Ipswich Town to kickstart his journey playing first-team football following his graduation from the Chelsea academy.
Last season was Chalobah’s breakthrough year as a first-team Chelsea player. He made 20 league appearances and looked very good for a young centre-back.
With the Blues bringing some new faces in after the departure of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, the Englishman has fallen down the pecking order. He has played one league game this season so far.
It is clear to see why the defender could be frustrated at the lack of game time at Chelsea. Now the question is whether he wants a loan move away from Stamford Bridge for playing experience, or sign off a permanent exit from the club.
For a centre-back, 23 is still a young age, however, this is the time when Chalobah should start playing more than he is doing in a Blue jersey of Chelsea. If he wants to make it at the highest level, the option to leave and develop as a player sounds more attractive than playing a patient game in west London.
