Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur have entered the running to sign Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech

In very surprising news on deadline day, Chelsea rivals Tottenham Hotspur have entered the running to sign Hakim Ziyech. This is according to the Spanish outlet Revelo (h/t Evening Standard).

It was earlier reported that the Blues have dropped their asking price for the 29-year-old to £21 million. This is way below the £33 million they paid for the midfielder back in 2020.

The Moroccan joined the club from Dutch side Ajax after a stellar season with them. However, he has struggled to replicate such form here in London. This has led to him being dropped down in the pecking order.

Ziyech won the Champions League in his first season with the club but his performances came under scrutiny. Such poor form continued the following season and saw him lose the trust of manager Thomas Tuchel.

The 29-year-old struggled for game time last season, making 23 league appearances, mostly from the bench. His performances were also way below his standard as the attacker managed to score only four goals and get three assists in the league last season.

Such form has continued this season too, with the 29-year-old only making two league appearances. It is clear he is not trusted by Tuchel so much. But that does not mean he is sold to a rival. His former Ajax Amsterdam were also interested in him, but nothing has materialised from that.

Tottenham are not only our league rivals but also European ones. It would be very unwise to help them strengthen their squad. Ziyech’s form may not be good now, but the player helps in adding depth to the squad and also has good experience under his belt. One never knows when the 29-year-old may regain his former self.

More Chelsea News:

Chelsea have won only two games this season and have a very hectic schedule for the next two months. Squad depth will play a key role and Tuchel could use all the legs available to him. It will be wise to keep the 29-year-old at the club, then sell him to a rival.
