Transfer News: Josko Gvardiol hints at a winter transfer amid Chelsea interest
In what will come as good news to the Chelsea fans, Josko Gvardiol has hinted at a January transfer amid interest from the Blues.
The west London club were interested in the centre-back for most of the summer. The then coach Thomas Tuchel, wanted to secure the 20-year-old’s signature and loan him back to RB Leipzig.
And as such, the Blues are also said to have bid £77 million for the defender. But, the offer was rejected and instead the centre-back signed a new deal to extend his contract till 2027.
Things changed back here at Chelsea too with Tuchel getting the sack and Graham Potter being appointed as the new manager. However, the interest in the centre-back is still there, with the new manager also said to be an admirer of the 20-year-old.
Gvardiol who is currently on international duty with Croatia has now hinted at a possible transfer this January. In an interview published in the Irish Sun, the centre-back hinted at a possible move.
“I am happy at Leipzig, I still have a lot to learn and need to work on myself. I have people who deal with it, I didn’t think about a transfer. We’ll see what happens in the winter.”
Such words will definitely make the Chelsea management happy. Thiago Silva is now 38 and despite no sign of slowing down, a long-term replacement is needed. Gvardiol fits such a bill perfectly. The 20-year-old has amassed huge playing experience at such a tender age.
With Wesley Fofana (21) and Trevoh Chalobah (23)already at the club, adding the Croatian international could potentially help solve the defensive issues for the Blues for years to come. All three of them could potentially play their prime years at Chelsea.
