According to Calciomercatoweb (h/t Express), Chelsea are set to offer out-of-favour striker Romelu Lukaku plus cash to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, to try and entice English superstar Harry Kane to move to Stamford Bridge next season.
The Belgian striker who had such an awful season at Chelsea last season was sent out on loan to Inter Milan after having fallen out with the coaches at the West London club. However, the Italian giants don’t have a buy option for the Blues forward
This means that there is a chance that the Belgian finds himself back in England at the start of next season and it seems like neither the Blues nor the player are keen on the reunion.
Chelsea, for much of the transfer window this season found themselves linked to a plethora of strikers but eventually had to settle down for former Arsenal superstar Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, signing the Gabonese international from Barcelona.
As good as the 33-year-old striker is, there is no denying that the talented striker is just a short-gap solution and cannot be viewed as a long-term option. This means that Chelsea might have to look for a new striker next season, someone who can lead the line for the next few seasons.
It has now emerged that one player who has been an early favourite for Graham Potter is Spurs superstar Harry Kane. The 29-year-old English striker is on top of his game right now and will be entering what are arguably the prime years of his career.
Until now, despite scoring so many goals for the Lilywhites over so many seasons, the English striker doesn’t have a trophy cabinet to boast of. At the age at which he finds himself, Kane will want to be at a place where he can stat-pad some trophies for his resume and there are not many places better than Chelsea to do that.
Spurs fans were of the feeling that their star man will want to stay in North London considering that he was chasing the record of ‘most goals scored for a single club’ in the Premier League. However, now that the 29-year-old has beaten Sergio Aguero to it, he might be more open to a move away from the Lilywhites.
Ultimately, it seems extremely unlikely that Harry Kane will leave the Premier League. That said, a move away from Spurs doesn’t sound ridiculous and the English striker could be a Chelsea striker soon
