Chelsea interested in signing Manchester United star on a free transfer next year

Transfer News: Chelsea are interested in signing Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford for free next summer

According to Italian newspaper La Repubblica (h/t Express), Chelsea are interested in signing Marcus Rashford for free should the forward fail to agree on a new deal with Manchester United.

Rashford’s current deal expires in 2023 and both the player and club are hoping to reach an agreement over an extension. But the Blues are not the only ones interested in the 24-year-old.

Paris Saint-Germain were interested in the England international this summer, but nothing could materialise from that. The forward is in favour of staying back at his boyhood club and cementing a place for himself in its history.

The 24-year-old has been at United his whole life and was promoted to the senior team in 2016. Since then the player has gone from strength to strength every season.

A clinical finisher with startling pace, the England international is capable of playing anywhere in the front three. The player went through a dip in form phase last season. But under new manager Erik ten Hag this season, he has regained his old form.

Rashford has started all of the six league games for United, scoring three and assisting two in the process. He showed his capabilities when he scored a brace against Arsenal last Sunday.

Chelsea have a new manager at the helm in Graham Potter. He is yet to make his managerial debut for the club, but it is highly unlikely that he will not want Rashford in his team. A young and proven Premier League player, with so much experience under his belt, he would make a fine signing for the west London club.

It remains to be seen if any problem arises in the negotiations between the player and his current club. Chelsea will hope that something does come up so that they can pounce on such a talented player who can lead our line for several years to come.

With Timo Werner no longer at the Bridge and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang already 33, there needs to be a long-term solution sought for the striker issues that have plagued us in recent years.
