Former Chelsea striker wants to return to the Premier League ‘soon’

Former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham wants to return to the Premier League soon

As per information from Corriere dello Sport (h/t Football.London), former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham is keen on a return to the Premier League as soon as possible

The Englishman, though, seems happy in Italy and doing well for AS Roma, does not see his long-term future in the Italian capital. Instead, he wants to play in his home country.

Roma signed the 24-year-old for a fee worth £34m in the summer of 2021, with Chelsea inserting a £67million buy-back clause of. They have been rewarded for that investment as the striker has been one of the best in his position in the Italian top flight.

Abraham scored 17 goals and assisted four in 37 league appearances last season, his first for Jose Mourinho’s team. Chelsea have a buyback clause inserted in the player’s contract to sign him back for £67m which becomes active next summer.

The Blues’ academy product, who has spent time on loan in the Championship in the past, had a breakthrough season at Stamford Bridge under Frank Lampard in 2019/20. He scored 15 goals and assisted four in 34 league appearances in that season.

However, Chelsea spent a lot of money in the 2020 summer to add to their forward options, and once Thomas Tuchel took charge, Abraham struggled for regular starts in the team.

Has the Englishman done his bit to convince the club that he can be bought back for such a high amount? It is a question that can be answered if his second season at Roma goes as well as his first. Two good seasons in the Italian top-flight can warrant that much money for a striker in the current market.

It also depends on the new manager Graham Potter whether he is happy with the current striking options, or wants more additions to come next summer. Currently, Chelsea have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Armando Broja as out-and-out centre-forward options. Kai Havertz has played as a nine before and can do a job there.
