Switzerland international Denis Zakaria moves to Chelsea from Juventus on deadline day
Chelsea have sealed the signing of midfielder Denis Zakaria from Juventus, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter. The Blues have brought the Switzerland international to Stamford Bridge on loan from the Old Lady.
A buy option of £30 million has also been included in the deal. The 25-year-old makes his way to Chelsea after a short stint in Italy, having signed for Juventus in January.
The former Borussia Monchengladbach star made his way to Serie A after a successful spell in Germany. For the Bundesliga outfit, Zakaria made 146 appearances in all competitions, mainly in the defensive midfield position.
Chelsea’s midfield crisis
Chelsea, at the moment, seemingly have issues in the middle of the park. N’Golo Kante has been sidelined for the time being. Having started the first two games of the 2022/23 campaign, the France international has missed the subsequent fixtures.
Kante is an important part of the team. Without him, we evidently look weaker in the engine room. The 31-year-old provides the legs in the middle of the park to cover the defence and also contributes in the final third.
Mateo Kovacic was also out for the start of the season and has only recently returned to action for Chelsea. The Croatian and Kante make the strongest pairing in the double pivot position in fans’ opinion for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
With the duo not having played together this season, Jorginho and Conor Gallagher. However, the duo hasn’t been the most solid partnership in the midfield for the Blues.
Chelsea’s Italian midfielder has started every game of the new season. However, fans aren’t convinced of the Euro 2020 winner’s quality. While Jorginho brings a lot to the table, he leaves a lot to be desired in a defensive sense.
