Ross Barkley joins Nice following termination of Chelsea contract
Former Chelsea player Ross Barkley has found a new club, a week after his Chelsea contract was mutually terminated. The 28-year-old has joined French side OGC Nice, according to The Herald Scotland.
The midfielder was nowhere near Thomas Tuchel’s plan and it was a wise move on the Blue’s part to terminate his contract. The former Everton man was linked with a move to Rangers during the last stages of the transfer window.
However, after much speculation, it seems no move could materialise for the player. He has put all rumours to bed now and joined Nice as a free agent.
It is a good move for the 28-year-old. The former England midfielder had struggled for playing time at west London since moving there in 2018 from Everton.
He was even sent out on loan for the 2020/21 season to Aston Villa but struggled to impress anyone. The midfielder was included in the pre-season squad by Tuchel but to no avail. The player did not feature at all for the Blues this season and saw his contract mutually terminated at the end.
Barkley’s time at Chelsea hardly had any moments for the 28-year-old. The midfielder struggled to play and when he did he could not impress anyone. The Englishman made 100 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, scoring 12 and assisting another 11.
The rise of Conor Gallagher and the arrival of Carney Chukwuemeka pushed Barkley way down the pecking order. If the midfielder had stayed at the club, he would hardly get a chance to play. Just 28, the player has the chance to now revive his career in France.
