A View From The Bridge

Report: Manchester United star created divide between Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea owner

Cristiano Ronaldo created divide between Thomas Tuchel and Todd Boehly before the sacking

According to Metro, Thomas Tuchel sprained his relationship with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly when the pair clashed over the pursuit of Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer transfer window.

Tuchel, who has now been sacked by the club, was given a free shot to take part in who to bring during the transfer window. As a result, they spent a lot of money to bring players wanted by the German.

However, the former Chelsea boss was not in favour of the club signing Ronaldo. Boehly wanted to make a statement signing in his first summer as the club owner and met with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes to discuss the possibility of this move happening.

The Portuguese superstar was even keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, as Boehly thought he had found a replacement for the outgoing Romelu Lukaku. But, Tuchel was adamant that he doesn’t want Ronaldo in his team as he felt the former Real Madrid star was not the right fit for his team.

The German had intentions to sign 33-year-old striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who eventually signed for the Blues on the deadline day.

This difference of opinion was enough to strain the relationship between Boehly and Tuchel. Whether that is one of the reasons why the latter is sacked despite being so early in the season, only the former knows.

It has been a turbulent start to the season for Chelsea and there is no hiding away from the fact that the results on the pitch have been poor. Was that all down to the players not wanting to play for the manager anymore, or is there something more than that?

These questions will continue to get asked until the new manager is appointed and he settles the ship soon. The pressure is on the owners now to make the right appointment, otherwise, it could spiral downwards.
