Contract News: Reece James signs a new six-year deal with Chelsea
As confirmed by the club’s official Twitter account, Chelsea wing-back-cum-defender Reece James has signed a new six-year deal with the club, committing his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
According to Nizaar Kinsella (h/t Football.London), the England international is going to become the highest-paid defender at the club, with a salary in the region of £250,000 per week.
James is delighted with this signing and believes the future of the club is going in the right direction. His performances have been pretty good this season after a good year last time around.
Speaking to the club website (h/t Football.London), here’s James:
I am over the moon with my new contract and I’m thankful for the fans, the new ownership and everyone involved in the club. I cannot wait to see what the future holds, and I am sure we will have the chance of winning many trophies.
The 22-year-old, who is an upcoming product of Cobham, played 26 league games last season, scoring five goals and assisting nine. He already has had a goal and an assist in five league appearances this season, playing both as a wing-back and as a right-sided centre-back.
Without a doubt, James is one of the important players in the Chelsea squad. Having his future sorted can be labelled as one of the important pieces of business this club has done this summer.
The best thing about the wing-back is that he is only 22 years old, meaning that the duration of this new contract will see the player spending his peak years at Stamford Bridge.
James has the potential to be a leader in years to come, and be the face of all good things Chelsea does in the seasons to come. He has the quality and potential to further improve his already polished game and become one of the best in the game in his position.
