“A proper striker” – Mateo Kovacic full of praise for new Chelsea signing

Mateo Kovacic full of praise for Chelsea signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Speaking in an interview ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League opener against Dinamo Zagreb as quoted by Football. London, Chelsea midfield ace Mateo Kovacic was full of praise for new Blue signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang calling him the player that the West Londoners desperately need.

Chelsea managed to sign veteran Gabonese striker Aubameyang from Barcelona on deadline day in a deal that was received with much fanfare. Despite being a former Arsenal player, Blues fans have shown a lot of warmth towards the signing of the former Barcelona man.

Aubameyang joined Barcelona from Arsenal very recently in the January transfer window on deadline day and the 33-year-old striker had a stunning six-month period at Camp Nou. He was arguably their best player in the league and want the Spanish giant’s constant goal threat.

The Gabonese veteran didn’t have the best of conclusions to his Arsenal career. He fell out with Mikel Arteta towards the end of his time in the Emirates and many people had written him off and labelled the talented striker as ‘finished’ but Aubameyang proved them all wrong.

The 33-year-old was more motivated and determined to prove his haters wrong and this showed during his time in Spain. There is no doubt that he could still do an amazing job for the club but the signing of Lewandowski pushed the former Dortmund striker down the pecking order.

Chelsea had been on the lookout for a striker to solve their goal-scoring woes throughout the summer, especially after both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner left the club. Armando Broja was an option but Tuchel always seemed to want a more experienced option.

The latest in a long list of players to don the dreaded No. 9 for Chelsea, can Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang break the curse?.

Aubameyang is a player who fits the bill perfectly. He has the experience of playing in the Premier League in the past. He is coming to the Blues in good form and he could be their answer finally to the player who is going to break the curse of the No. 9 shirt.

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic waxed lyrical about the signing of the striker and said that he could offer a lot to the club with his ability.

“He’s a proper striker and goal scorer, which we miss in the last years. We haven’t had a goalscorer that scores 20 or 25 goals a season which you need to obviously win the title. We are looking forward to having him in our squad, he will be a big addition that’s for sure. He’s a proven goalscorer.”
