Chelsea hierarchy set two important goals for Graham Potter this season

Graham Potter expected to finish in the top four and go deep in the Champions League in his first season as Chelsea manager

Graham Potter has been handed a few goals for the 2022/23 season, with the Chelsea hierarchy expecting a top-four finish and a deep run in the Champions League, according to The Daily Mail (h/t Metro).

Another factor the former Brighton & Hove Albion head coach will be judged on is the team’s performances on the pitch. The 47-year-old is anticipated to bring in a new philosophy and style of play and improve the Blues as a whole.

Even if Potter fails to secure a place in the CL by the end of the campaign, his place in the hot seat will not be under threat. How Chelsea conduct themselves on and off the pitch will have a significant bearing on the Englishman’s future, though.

The Chelsea hierarchy expect Graham Potter to improve the team’s performances.

Boehly and the consortium are planning for a long-term association with Potter. And if the former Seagulls head coach improves the side, he will be given the opportunity to take the side into next season, with a full summer transfer window.

The hierarchy realised that with any new manager, patience is key. Potter will evidently need time to implement his ideas. The 47-year-old takes charge of a squad that has several new fresh faces.

Potter needs to be given time at Chelsea

A lot of players departed the club this summer. However, Chelsea went into the market and signed some quality players in the transfer window. The backline has been revamped with the arrival of two new centre-backs.

The forward lines has also seen a lot of chopping and changing. Romelu Lukaku joined Inter Milan on loan, while Timo Werner went back to ply his trade in the Bundesliga.

Potter has garnered a decent reputation in England over the years. His time in Sussex helped cement the 47-year-old’s name in the English top flight as one of the most promising managers in the PL.

However, Chelsea is the first relatively big club Potter has taken charge of. The former Brighton manager has never experienced the UCL. It remains to be seen how he handles the pressure that comes with managing the Blues.
