William Gallas unsure whether Aubameyang will be a success at Chelsea
Speaking to Genting Casino (h/t Football.London), former Premier League defender William Gallas is unsure whether Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be a success at Chelsea, referring to a different style of play compared to that of Arsenal.
Gallas points out that there is a significant difference in the way Aubameyang’s former club Arsenal play, which is more one-two touch and counter-attacking football rather than Chelsea’s possession-based game.
To counter that point, one can say that the 33-year-old did well in his six-month stint at Barcelona, a team that thrives on the possession game. The striker scored 11 goals in 17 league appearances in the second half of last season playing for the Spanish giants.
Here’s what Gallas had to say regarding Aubameyang at Chelsea (h/t Football.London):
I’m not sure. Of course, I would love him to do well for the club. If you look at how Chelsea play, I’m not sure he will suit that system or style. Chelsea play quite a slow style – not like Arsenal – he is used to playing one or two touch, quick football on the counter attack. Chelsea keep more of the ball.
The former Gabon international was wanted by Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea, having worked with the player in the past. However, the manager is now sacked by the club, leaving the player to adapt to the playing style of the new manager.
There is no doubting his quality though. He has all the experience in the world and knows the Premier League inside out to be a success at Chelsea regardless of the current situation.
Despite his underwhelming finish at Arsenal, the former Borussia Dortmund man scored 68 goals and assisted 16 in 128 Premier League appearances for the Gunners. He produced those numbers while mostly playing as a left winger, cutting inside on his right foot.

So, while Gallas is right that there is a difference between how Arsenal and Chelsea play, Aubameyang is good enough to adapt to any style of play and score goals for the team. He has done it everywhere and is widely expected to do it at Stamford Bridge as well.
