According to the Telegraph (Subscription Required), Thomas Tuchel has been left in the United Kingdom due to the post-Brexit visa oblivion following his sacking from Chelsea earlier this month.
The German was relieved of his duties as the Chelsea manager on September 7, hours after the defeat to Dinamo Zagreb on the opening night of the Champions League. The Blues lost 1-0 against the Croatian side but despite the poor result, the sacking still came as a big surprise.
It’s been more than two weeks since that happened and the 49-year-old is still living in his place near the Cobham training centre. He is waiting to find what exactly is required to leave the country.
Tuchel arrived on a post-Brexit Governing Body Endorsement visa, meaning he has a maximum of 90 days since the day of his sacking to leave the country. However, there hasn’t been any confirmation on that, either from the Football Association or the Home Office.
Even though the German is happy and comfortable in the country, he is not able to do what he did after leaving Paris Saint-Germain – which is to quickly pick up another job by joining Chelsea.
He has already been linked with a Bayern Munich job this week after the German champions made a patchy start to the season under Julian Nagelsmann.
Tuchel has not yet decided on the final destination of his work due to the complications regarding his departure from the UK. He may either go back to Germany and work there, stay back and wait for offers in the Premier League, or take a short break and keep the options open.
His time at Chelsea, albeit lasting only 18 months, was a successful one. The 49-year-old won the Champions League four months into his work at Stamford Bridge in 2021. In the following season, he made it to two domestic cup finals and won the Club World Cup.
No wonder people were surprised by the sacking of a great manager, who did so much for the Blues during the summer transfer window by helping them get players over the line. In return, he got a sack a week after the deadline. Life cannot be fair sometimes!
