Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink backs Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score 20 goals
Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has backed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score 20 goals this season. The former player also then gave his expectations for his former club.
Chelsea strikers have struggled to find the back of the net in recent years. Diego Costa was the last forward to score 20 goals in 35 league games in the title-winning season of 2016-17.
Aubameyang will hope to break that curse this season. The former Arsenal striker signed for the Blues on deadline day from Barcelona for around £10 million.
Hasselbaink believes that the 33-year-old will thrive on his return to the Premier League but has his doubts about his former side challenging for the title. Speaking to Safe Betting Sites (h/t Metro), the former Blues striker gave his opinion.
“Aubameyang did really well at Barcelona. He was scoring goals. It’s a good signing for Chelsea for the next two years. I think he will score goals; he knows where the back of the net is. Aubameyang can score 20 plus goals. Have they got a squad to go and become champions? Not yet.”
The former player, however, believes that Chelsea have the squad to compete for a top-four finish and the FA Cup. But he does not think that the Blues can win the Champions League this season.
“Have they got a squad to get in the top four and compete for an FA Cup, or get far in the Champions League? Yes. Are they going to win the Champions League? They’re not favourites, I don’t think that they are. But a successful season would be finishing in the top four and winning a cup this year.”
Chelsea have gotten off to a rocky start this season. The Blues have only won three league games this season and currently sit seventh on the table with 10 points, eight behind leaders Arsenal. In the Champions League, things have been worse, with the club winning only one point from their two games and sitting bottom of their group.
With a new manager at the helm, fans will hope for a turnaround. Graham Potter has the squad and backing of the owners to take his side to new heights. It remains to be seen if he can do that.

The Blues last won the Premier League in the 2016-17 season, while have not lifted the FA Cup since last winning it in 2018. Fans will hope for that to change this season and will expect their side to lift silverware at the end of this season.
