Injury News: The latest on Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy
Chelsea were without their two senior players in N’Golo Kante and Edouard Mendy the last time they played. It was also new manager Graham Potter’s first game in charge.
Since then, the international break has started and club football has come to a halt. However, both the players have not been able to travel to represent their countries due to their injuries.
Mendy suffered a knee injury and did not feature in both the Champions League games for his side. He was also ruled out for the game against Fulham which was subsequently postponed. (h/t football.london)
The Senegal international went on international duty despite his injury but has now returned to Cobham. The Blues will hope that their first-choice goalkeeper will be able to recover before their next game against Crystal Palace on October 1.
Kante has not featured for the club since picking up a hamstring injury in the derby against Tottenham Hotspur last month. The match which ended 2-2 was marred with controversy as the second goal of Spurs should have actually been ruled out.
The Frenchman was not able to also travel for international duty this month, with Didier Deschamps’ France squad already struck with a string of injuries. The Blues will hope that their midfield maestro can be fit before the next month.
Chelsea will play in nine matches next month which could potentially decide their season, both domestically and in Europe. Kante’s absence is being felt in the middle of the park, with none of the current midfielders able to replicate his contribution to the team.
