A new era has dawned upon Chelsea this summer. With new owners taking over the club, they also now have a new manager at the helm. Graham Potter, who was appointed this Thursday, led his first Chelsea training session at Cobham on Friday. (h/t Evening Standard)
This comes despite the Premier League games this weekend being called off as a mark of respect to Her Majesty The Queen. But, this has not stopped Potter from getting to work as he led the session at Cobham.
The Blues are currently understood to be preparing for their second Champions League. The west London will play host to RB Salzburg this Wednesday. This game is likely to go ahead.
No new dates have yet been confirmed for the postponed games of this weekend. There is also concern whether the next league game on September 18, Sunday will also go ahead as it will fall during the 12-day mourning period.
Chelsea will play host to Liverpool that day. Nevertheless, the former Brighton &Hove Albion manager took charge of his first training session today at Cobham.
It will be interesting to see what tactics and changes Potter implements in his new side. The 47-year-old would have met his new set of players and will likely make his managerial debut on a Champions League night.
The Englishman has never coached any side in the competition, and it will be interesting to see how he fares. There will be immense pressure on the new boss as his side has already lost their first game. The Blues will be expected to win, and Potter will hope he can deliver such expectations.
With crucial days ahead for both Potter and the club, fans will hope that the new manager can settle in quickly at the club. It is one giant leap that the 47-year-old has made and only time will tell if he is worthy of filling in such shoes.
First, it will be important for him to stamp his authority in the training ground and then win the trust of his players. We can expect to see him on the touchline this week if Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League clash against RB Salzburg on Wednesday night goes ahead as planned.
