Graham Potter is proud and excited to take over as new Chelsea boss
Chelsea announced the appointment of Graham Potter as their new head coach this Thursday. This came after Thomas Tuchel was sacked following defeat in the game against Dinamo Zagreb.
Potter was the favourite to replace Tuchel and that has now become a reality. The 47-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the west London club. In an interview published in Football. London, the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager, opened up about joining the club.
I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this fantastic football club. I am very excited to partner with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and to develop a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of.
A former player himself, the Englishman played as a left-back during his playing days. The 47-year-old mainly played in the second division for clubs like Birmingham City and Stoke City. He did, however, spend one season in the Premier League playing for Southampton.
The brilliant coach began his managerial career in Sweden after taking charge of Ostersunds in the country’s fourth division. He took them to the top division and won their first domestic trophy. He also guided his side to European football.
He returned back home and was offered to manage Swansea City for the 2018/19 season. He managed to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with the side and was then offered the Brighton job at the start of the 2019/20 campaign. Here, he reinvented the side and became one to look out for.
The 47-year-old led the Seagulls to their best-ever Premier League finish last season when they finished ninth in the table. Fearless and attacking brand of football became synonymous with his coaching style.
Chelsea fans have every reason to be excited about his appointment. The Englishman plays very fluid and attacking football and the fans would love to see that at Stamford Bridge. Also, the coach is famous for nourishing young talents and the Blues are filled with such youngsters.
