In what will come as good news to Graham Potter, Chelsea seems to have been offered a double injury boost. Edouard Mendy and Christian Pulisic are set to be fit before the Blue’s next game against Crystal Palace, according to the Evening Standard.
Mendy has missed both the Champions League game for the Blues this season, due to a recurring knee issue. His deputy, Kepa Arrizabalaga has been the man between the post during his absence.
Pulisic, who is away on international duty, missed the United States friendly against Japan in Dusseldorf last Friday. The 24-year-old suffered a knock during training, but will now start the game against Saudi Arabia later tonight.
Both the player’s returns will come as a huge relief to Potter. Mendy has been the club’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper since joining them in 2020 from French side Stade Rennais.
The 30-year-old is likely to remain the first-choice this season too, but with a new manager at the helm, Kepa could see this as an opportunity to reclaim his spot as the number one for the west London club.
Pulisic meanwhile will hope that his game time improves under Potter. The winger has started only one game so far this season and has come off the bench for seven games in all competitions. The 24-year-old is also yet to score or assist this season.
Chelsea are set to play nine games next month in what could possibly be the defining month for the Blues this season. They are currently seventh on the table with 10 points while sitting at the bottom of their Champions League group with only one point.
The Blues will travel to face Crystal Palace this Saturday, which will also be Potter’s first league game in charge of the club. Mendy and Pulisic will hope to start the game, while fans will hope for all three points.
