There was much uncertainty involving the 20-year-old this summer. Coming back after a successful loan spell, the Albanian striker was in demand with West Ham United the keenest ones to get their hands on the teenager.

Broja was named in the pre-season squad and travelled to the United States for the pre-season tour. However, that was cut short as the forward had to return to London after picking up an injury in training.

There were speculations that he had returned to complete a £30 million move to West Ham. But after weeks of rumours and speculations, nothing happened. A conversation with Thomas Tuchel convinced the striker to stay put at the club.

He emerged as one of the best young strikers in the Premier League, after scoring nine goals on loan for Southampton. This has led to the 20-year-old having a place on the bench this season. Following his contract renewal, the centre-forward had his say.

I’m lost for words really just thinking about it. It’s the club I’ve dreamed of playing for my whole life, the club that I support and the club that I love. I’ve been here since I was a boy so it’s a surreal feeling for me and my family. To be able to put on the blue shirt with the first team is a dream come true.

Broja could be handed a start against West Ham this weekend. Kai Havertz has been in disappointing form this season, having failed to find the back of the net on all five occasions.

Chelsea have gotten off to a disappointing start this season. The Blues have won two of their five games and currently sit 10th on the table with seven points. A win against the Hammers this Saturday (today) would do Tuchel the world of good.

A Cobham graduate, it is always nice to see a player come up the ranks and make his name for the team. A tall and clinical forward, Broja has all the capabilities of becoming one of the best target men in the Premier League. Just 20, the future of Chelsea attack looks secure.
