Chelsea eyeing recruitment head from London rivals to add to backroom staff

Chelsea are eyeing Brentford’s recruitment head Lee Dykes

As per a tweet from Simon Phillips, quoted from Fabrizio Romano (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are looking to add to their backroom by eyeing up a move for Brentford’s recruitment head Lee Dykes.

The Blues are already in the mix to appoint a sporting director soon, with RB Salzburg’s Christoph Freund being one of the serious candidates. Co-owner Todd Boehly wants to get a director in place before the World Cup.

In addition to that, Chelsea are also on the lookout to hire Dykes from Brentford. The 38-year-old was a chief scout with the club for three years before becoming the head of recruitment this summer. He has worked at Bury and Carlisle United before.

New manager Graham Potter has already brought recruitment guru Kyle Macauley with him from Brighton and Hove Albion. However, it seems as if the club is insistent on adding more people to this department.

The new Chelsea owners, who took over from Roman Abramovich following the sanctions, have had a busy time of late going through this transition phase.

They sacked manager Thomas Tuchel last week, while co-owner Todd Boehly had to work as an interim sporting director during the summer transfer window because there was and is no one in that position. Hence the urgency to appoint one before the World Cup.

Apart from all the above, they are also looking at buying clubs from different countries to expand the Chelsea brand into a multi-club organisation. Moreover, it is a strategy to move away from the “loan army” system of Roman Abramovich and foster young players from their sister clubs.

More Chelsea News:

Going back to the prospect of hiring Dykes, the Brentford man has done an excellent job, both as a chief scout and currently as a recruitment head. The Bees seem to have cracked the code of getting in the best talents, hence they now are in a settled position in the Premier League.
