Speaking to Wesley Fofana on Chelsea’s YouTube channel (h/t Metro), striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened up about his bad moments and being hurt at one of his previous clubs.
The 33-year-old former Arsenal forward, who arrived at Chelsea on the deadline day of the summer transfer window from Barcelona, had a controversial final few months with the Gunners before leaving them for Spain.
The Gabonese star left north London in January of this year, after falling out with the club manager Mikel Arteta which led to him being stripped of the club’s captaincy due to disciplinary issues.
Here’s what the former Borussia Dortmund said regarding his bad and hurtful moments (h/t Metro):
“I’ve been through a lot of bad moments, not injuries.
I was okay but at the beginning of my career everyone was talking about me as a sprinter only. This hurts sometimes because you know where you’ve come from, you know you went through a lot of stuff and you always try your best and some people, even from your club say you’re not good at playing football.”
Since joining Chelsea, Aubameyang has made two appearances, both coming in the Champions League. The Blues did not play any of the two league games after his arrival before the international break because of the death of the Queen.
The 33-year-old struggled in those two appearances, he didn’t look fully fit and also had to adapt to playing with a protective mask on.
There is no doubting his talent and class though. The striker scored 92 goals in 163 appearances for Arsenal while netting 13 in 24 for Barcelona before moving to Chelsea.
It is all about him feeling settled at the club with the new manager in charge and then starting to unleash his quality on the pitch by scoring goals.
With the sour note he left the Premier League on from Arsenal, Aubameyang would be looking at showing everyone in the world that he can still do it at the highest stage. The international break must be a big help for him to settle down at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea next play Crystal Palace away from home. The Blues fans will be hoping that their lead striker starts firing in the goals that will help them win games.
