In his column for The Players’ Tribune (h/t Football.London), young Chelsea striker Armando Broja has high ambitions for his career and wants to mould his game around the game’s great strikers, namely Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane.
The Blues have had a big old struggle replacing their legendary striker Didier Drogba. Diego Costa and Tammy Abraham have come close to emulating that, but no one has been as good as the Ivory Coast superstar.
Broja, who recently signed a new six-year deal with the club, has vowed to mould his game around one of the greatest scorers in the game Cristiano Ronaldo and a to-be Premier League goal-scoring legend Kane.
Here are some of the excerpts from the youngster’s column (h/t Football.London):
“I know I’ve got high targets. I want to be Albania’s own Harry Kane, Ronaldo or R9. I want to get my country to a World Cup. And when my career is over, I want my name to live on. For Albania. For my Dad.”
It was revealed a couple of weeks ago that the 21-year-old has caught the eye of new manager Graham Potter in training, and getting game time is around the corner for him after not making a start in any of the games so far this season.
Broja spent the last season on loan at Southampton, where he was one of the best players. Despite only scoring six goals in 32 league appearances, the Albanian international showcased other attributes in his game to prove that he can add much more to the game than just the goals.
Potter is a type of manager who is not hesitant in giving young players a chance. He could do that with Broja in the coming games. The 21-year-old has all the qualities needed in a centre-forward. He can play in a two-man attack alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as well.
Though it is always better to speak less and show it more on the field, Broja’s high ambitions are a case-in-point that the player is looking to reach the heights he knows he can reach.
Chelsea have games coming up at a rapid pace this weekend onwards. There would be a chance for the 21-year-old to play and walk the talk of his column.
