Chelsea star Edouard Mendy set to miss RB Salzburg clash
Graham Potter has been dealt with an early injury blow at Chelsea as Edouard Mendy is set to miss their next game against RB Salzburg, as per Football. London.
The 30-year-old was on the bench against Dinamo Zagreb last time out as the goalkeeper was nursing a patella tendon injury. He was also struggling to be fit for the next game against Fulham.
However, that game has now been postponed, but Mendy looks likely to miss out on the next game too. Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected to start in goal instead.
It is also reported that the Senegalese international was not part of the first-team training earlier this morning. He is set to likely miss out on the new era at the club with Potter taking charge of his first game for the Blues this Wednesday.
But he won’t be the only person to miss out. N’Golo Kante is still absent from training sessions after the French midfielder picked up a hamstring injury against Tottenham Hotspur.
His absence is clearly being felt since as Conor Gallagher and Jorginho have struggled to replicate the Frenchman’s style of play in the middle of the park. It is expected that the 31-year-old will be out till after the international break.
Potter was appointed the new head coach of Chelsea last Thursday after the west London club unexpectedly sacked Thomas Tuchel. He was to take charge against Fulham, but with that match cancelled, the new coach will make his debut on a Champions League night.

It will be interesting to see what changes the new coach makes, both in the choice of players and tactics. Having never managed any team in the premier European tournament, it will be a task for both the coach and players against Salzburg.
