Report: Chelsea set for another round of talks with Leverkusen sporting director

Chelsea set for another round of talks with Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Tim Steidten

Chelsea and Todd Boehly continue with their hunt for a sporting director with another round of talks scheduled with Bayer Leverkusen’s Tim Steidten, reports the Evening Standard.

Boehly, who is also co-owner of the west London club, has been acting as the interim sporting director till now. But the American is keen to hand over such responsibilities to someone else before the World Cup.

The Blues have been going through a restructuring in the management area. Most of the people who worked under the previous owner Roman Abramovich have left the club with the most recent being the head physio Thierry Laurent.

Steidten is not the first candidate to be approached by the Blues. RB Salzburg director Christoph Freund and Paris Saint-Germain advisor Luis Campos were all approached. Even former Liverpool director Michael Edwards was linked with for the job.

However, none of the shortlisted targets agreed to join the club and the Blues are still looking for one in the market. The Leverkusen director has already held talks with the club, and it is believed that they were positive.

The 43-year-old has already negotiated a transfer with the west London club, taking talented winger Callum Hudson-Odoi on loan to his club. Chelsea are also said to be considering Leeds United’s Victor Orta for the job.

Graham Potter, the new manager of the club has brought in his trusted recruitment analyst Kyle Macaulay with him. Whoever is appointed for the sporting director post will need to work with Macaulay as Chelsea embarks on a new era.

More Chelsea News:

It remains to be seen who is appointed for the top job. Boehly will hope to do so within the next month as it will give enough time to the new director to understand the need of the club and target players accordingly in the January transfer window.
