A View From The Bridge

Report: Chelsea players were fed up with Tuchel’s antics on the sidelines

Chelsea players were sick of Thomas Tuchel and his antics on the sideline

According to the Daily Mail (h/t Sun), Chelsea players hated playing near the touchline where the managers stand as they were sick of the constant moaning and complaining by Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel was sacked by the club on Wednesday morning, hours after the Blues lost to Dinamo Zagreb on the opening night of the Champions League.

It is revealed that the former Mainz and Borussia Dortmund manager had lost the faith of the players and the owners before getting sacked in a 10-minute conference call from the latter in the training ground.

Chelsea’s wide players disliked playing along the East Stand of Stamford Bridge as Tuchel would always be on their case moaning about any mistake made. They were fed up with the fact that the German used to moan at any misstep.

So, the former Chelsea manager basically wanted his players to play like robots. That can be draining in due course of time because mistakes can happen from anybody on and off the pitch.

Elite managers are perfectionists who become agitated even if there is a single mistake made, but they also know how to deal with the players during and after the game. Maybe, Tuchel was not the best man-manager at Chelsea.

The German has been replaced by Graham Potter, who is understood to have great tactical knowledge and balanced man management skills. Pep Guardiola has said that he is a big fan of the former Swansea City boss.

Potter has signed a five-year contract at Chelsea, showing how much the owners wanted to hire him and give him the time to implement his ideas.

There is no hiding away from the fact that the Blues have made a slow start to the season. Results have to improve soon if they are to remain in sight to challenge for the big trophies by the end of this campaign.
