Transfer News: Chelsea could pursue La Liga superstar midfielder in January

Chelsea could rekindle Frenkie de Jong pursuit in January

According to Football. London, Chelsea could be set to revive their interest in talented Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong in the next transfer window after failing to secure a move for the Barcelona man in the transfer window that just concluded.

It is no secret that Chelsea wanted to sign the Barcelona man this summer but a move for the talented dutchman never really materialised. However, it looks like the Blues have absolutely no intention to give up and will be back for the talented midfielder soon.

It is being claimed by the Mirror that the 25-year-old midfield ace was rather disappointed with how he was treated at Barcelona and it is has left a sour feeling for Frenkie. He might want to make the move too in the next opportunity and move to a club where he is treated well.

Chelsea could push for Frenkie

Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez supposedly informed the player over call that the player could be moved on and this did not sit well with Frenkie de Jong. The player, according to Mundo Deportivo was very keen on staying in Spain and dug his heels in.

Frenkie joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019. He was very highly rated as one of the best young midfielders in the world and it comes as no surprise that the Spanish giants snapped him up. Since then, he has been largely decent for the Spanish club.

However, there is a feeling that Frenkie doesn’t perform to his potential at Barcelona. He has divided the opinion of the Camp Nou faithful throughout his time here. The Dutchman to his credit though has had a very good start to the current season.

Frenkie was linked with a move away from Barcelona

Chelsea eventually signed Denis Zakaria from Juventus on loan on deadline day and the player is expected to play a huge role for Thomas Tuchel. However, the Swiss footballer can also play in central defence and the Blues could still sign a midfielder.

More Chelsea News:

Frenkie will be a sensational signing for Chelsea. However, it is going to be a very difficult negotiation for the Blues and it remains to be seen how they convince Barcelona to sell the player.
