A View From The Bridge

Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane among those on Chelsea managerial shortlist

Chelsea considering Mauricio Pochettino and Zidane Zidane to replace Thomas Tuchel

According to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett via Twitter, Chelsea are also considering Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane apart from Graham Potter as potential replacements for Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel was earlier sacked by the Blues following his side’s defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in their opening Champions League game. It was the German’s 100th game in charge and he has now departed the club.

It came as very surprising news to many, fans and rivals alike that the west London club would depart with a coach like Tuchel. Now the race to find his replacement has started and the Blues seem to have shortlisted some options.

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter is said to be the favourite in the running. The west London club are expected to approach the Seagulls for permission to speak with the English coach. But should they fail in their pursuit, they have other two options to approach.

Pochettino, who replaced Tuchel at Paris Saint-Germain, could yet again replace him at Chelsea. The former PSG and Tottenham Hotspur coach has been out of a job since he parted ways with the French club in July earlier this year. The 50-year-old is one of the best in the business, despite failing to win any silver with Tottenham.

His love for his former club could be a hindrance for the Blues. A proven Premier League manager, he would make a fine head coach at the west London club. The other option is said to be Zidane. One of the best players of his time, and his coaching career was also no less.

Mauricio Pochettino is in the running to replace Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.

The former Real Madrid player started his coaching career at their Castilla side. The 50-year-old was appointed as head coach of the La Liga giants in January 2016. The Frenchman led Los Blancos to three consecutive Champions League victories and left the side in 2018.

Zidane took over Real again in 2019, but the European success did not follow again. They, however, did win the La Liga in 2020. He again left the club in 2021 and has not managed any club since. An attacking coach with very good player management, he would make a very good boss at the Chelsea helm.

More Chelsea News:

It remains to be seen who is appointed at the helm. The new owners are about to complete three months of taking over the club, and the one they appoint could tell us what lies ahead for the club. After spending so heavily this summer, this could be the most important transfer they make this season.
