A View From The Bridge

Report: Chelsea tipped to swoop in for another Brighton man in January

Chelsea are tipped to sign Brighton star Leandro Trossard in January

According to an analyst and former Netherlands international Johan Boskamp speaking to Voetbal Primeur (h/t Express), Chelsea are tipped to sign Leandro Trossard from Brighton & Hove Albion during the January transfer window.

The Blues have already acquired the services of left-back Marc Cucurella and manager Graham Potter from the Seagulls in the last few days and weeks. The former was signed during the summer window and the latter was appointed last Thursday after the sacking of Thomas Tuchel.

Now, Potter is tipped to go back to Brighton in search of players to add to the Chelsea squad, with Trossard being one of the options.

Talking about this possibly happening, here’s Boskamp (h/t Express):

Under Potter, he (Trossard) grew into a strong holder in the Premier League. Hopefully, he will stay that way under his successor. I’m not too worried because his form will last. Maybe Potter will come and get him during the winter.

Trossard, who was formerly at Genk, signed for Brighton in the summer of 2020. Since then under the management of Potter, the Belgian international has been one of the impressive players in the team.

The 27-year-old possesses quality on the ball and has the versatility to play in any position across the front line. He can also operate as a number 10 or as a wing-back if need be.

In the six league games so far, all played under Potter, Trossard scored two goals and assisted two, playing mostly as a left winger. The best quality he has is the ability to be proactive without the ball and help the team press from the front.

Although Chelsea have some options in wide attacking areas, some of them have not been good so far this season. The likes of Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech struggled for game time under Tuchel not just this season but last as well. Now, it remains to be seen whether the duo would start to shine under Potter.

More Chelsea News:

If that does not happen, then making a move for Trossard would make a lot of sense. The Belgian can not only improve their options in wide areas but also add versatility.
