A View From The Bridge

“Wait and see”- Chelsea loanee opens up on his future at Stamford Bridge

Callum Hudson-Odoi reveals plans for his future at Chelsea while being on loan at Bayer Leverkusen

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Football.London), Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, who is currently on loan at German side Bayer Leverkusen, revealed his plans for the future at Stamford Bridge while being excited about playing for the Bundesliga club.

The 21-year-old moved to Leverkusen very late in the summer window on a season-long deal. The move was sanctioned by Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly with both parties in agreement that the player needs to play games regularly to make him reach his high potential.

Hudson-Odoi has done well for the German side so far, with one assist in five games and performing well despite not always producing the final bit. The expectation is that the more he plays, the better he will get.

Callum Hudson-Odoi struggled for game time at Chelsea.

Here’s what the Englishman revealed about his future plans at Chelsea (h/t Football.London):

“Coming out here my aim was to get as many games as possible and build on the fitness that I haven’t really had in the last couple of seasons for Chelsea.”

“Game wise I have been playing a lot here and I’m really enjoying it and every moment here, trying to help the team as much as possible, scoring goals and assisting goals, just doing whatever even it’s not scoring or assisting, just being influential in the team.”

“We don’t know what will happen to the team in January or from now until the end of the season, we just wait and see but right now I’m focused on playing as much football as possible and trying to help the team.”

Although the winger is tight-lipped on giving out specific details, the current Chelsea manager Graham Potter wanted to sign him when he was managing Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this season. And the boss could recall the player back in January itself if things go well from his viewpoint.

Hudson-Odoi can play a maximum of 12 more games for Leverkusen before the start of the World Cup. The 21-year-old is not expected to make the squad travelling to Qatar. So, he will have a time off and also a chance to speak to Potter regarding the exact future plans.

Graham Potter could recall Chelsea loanee Callum Hudson-Odoi in January from Bayer Leverkusen .

The Cobham academy product played around 2000 minutes of Premier League football in the past two seasons, which was definitely not enough. Going out on loan to play games can help him regain his confidence, which he can use when coming back to his parent club.

More Chelsea News:

Hudson-Odoi is one of those wingers who possesses an X-factor in his game. He has the pace, directness with the ball and running ability that can stretch defences all around Europe. His product delivery needs some work on, which can be done under good coaching and guidance. He still should be a prized asset going forward in the future.
