“Hyped”- Brian Dunseth gives unflattering verdict on Chelsea star

Brian Dunseth believes that Chelsea star Christian Pulisic is overhyped

Former MLS and USMNT player Brian Dunseth believes that Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic is overhyped and cannot be trusted.

Speaking to his SiriusXM podcast via the Daily Mail (h/t Mirror), he told USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter that the 24-year-old cannot be trusted at the World Cup this November.

“You can’t trust Pulisic. As much as you want to believe in Pulisic, as much as he’s been hyped to be the everything that everybody thinks he can be or wants him to be, the reality is he’s not.”

Pulisic is the captain of his international team. The winger has racked up 52 appearances for his country, scoring 21 goals in the process. He also scored in the final against Mexico when the United States won the CONCACAF Nations League in June 2021.

The winger, if anything, is his side’s biggest hope in the prestigious tournament. While the American women’s team have been world champions four times, the men’s side has only managed to reach the quarter-finals once that too in 1930. They even failed to qualify for the last World Cup in Russia.

Pulisic has been named ‘Captain America’ by his supporters after he broke into the Borussia Dortmund team at the age of 17. He then secured a £58 million move to Chelsea from the Bundesliga side in 2019. But has since then, failed to live up to the price tag.

His Blues career so far has been marred with several injury issues and the 24-year-old has struggled to cement a place for himself in the team. The winger has managed to make 123 appearances so far for the Blues in all competition but has only found the back of the net 25 times.

But the winger has another opportunity. With a new manager in Graham Potter at the helm, the USMNT captain could look to impress him and cement a place for himself in the team before the World Cup. The winger also started for his country in their goalless friendly against Saudi Arabia, last night.

More Chelsea News:

It remains to be seen if the 24-year-old can turn his fortunes around. While he is almost guaranteed to travel to Qatar for the World Cup, his performance there could define his future at Chelsea. The United States begin their campaign against Wales on November 21 before facing England on November 25.
