Tuchel hit with FA charge following comments on Anthony Taylor

Thomas Tuchel hit with FA charge following his comments on referee Anthony Taylor

According to Football.London, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is hit with an FA charge following his comments on referee Anthony Taylor in the aftermath of the Chelsea-Tottenham Hotspur game last Sunday, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Tuchel was visibly and verbally enraged by the performance of the referee Taylor. The decisions of the two big controversial moments in the game went against the Blues even though common sense would say that it should have gone the other way. Given that they both lead to Spurs’ scoring, Tuchel has a right to be miffed.

For the first goal, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s shot went through Richarlison’s leg. The Brazilian was offside and also impaired the vision of Edouard Mendy to get across to make the save. To say that he was not interfering is laughable.

In the build-up of the second goal, Christian Romero appeared to have pulled Marc Cucurella’s hair in the Chelsea box, but no punishment was given by the referee and the VAR. Speaking about the referee, Tuchel was less than complimentary.

Not only the fans [who have an issue with Taylor]. You know the players, they know what’s going on when they are on the pitch. They know it.

Maybe it would be better [if Taylor didn’t referee Chelsea games again]. But honestly, we also have VAR to help make the right decision. Since when can players be pulled by hair? Since when is that [not a foul]? If he does not see it, I do not blame him. I didn’t see it.

Chelsea were clearly the better team in that game, hence these diabolical decisions clearly stole two points away from them. As much as it is justified what Tuchel got as a punishment, the referees need to have more accountability as well.

The Chelsea manager has already been charged £35,000 fine and a currently-suspended one-match touchline ban for his post-match handshake saga with Antonio Conte. This new charge has arrived on top of that, which won’t make his week better after the Blues’ crushing defeat at the hands of Leeds United on Sunday.

The FA statement regarding the situation was released as:

Thomas Tuchel has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to comments that he made after Chelsea FC’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur FC on Sunday 14 August 2022.

It is alleged that the manager’s comments in his post-match press conference constitute improper conduct as contrary to FA Rule E3.1 they imply bias and/or question the integrity of the match referee, and/or bring the game into disrepute.

Maybe it is time for Tuchel to take a back seat and focus on organising his team better for the challenges ahead. The defeat to Leeds was not only a defeat but a reality check that this team has a long way to go before it can challenge for major honours.

More Chelsea News:

Up next, the German has an assignment of preparing his team to face Leicester City at Stamford Bridge. That game would provide a chance for Chelsea to come back to winning ways and unshackle some of the frustrations since the Tottenham game and the embarrassment of the Leeds defeat.
