Chelsea defender to be allowed to leave once Fofana arrives

Trevoh Chalobah will be allowed to leave Chelsea once Wesley Fofana is signed

Chelsea will allow Trevoh Chalobah to leave this transfer window after the signing of Wesley Fofana from Leicester City, according to The Daily Mail. The 23-year-old has several offers from big European teams on the table.

Inter Milan, AC Milan and RB Leipzig want to take Chalobah on loan this summer. The England U21 international impressed many last season with his displays.

Chalobah was regularly used in the 2021/22 campaign by Thomas Tuchel. The young centre-back featured in 31 games for the Blues. The 23-year-old regularly partnered Tiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger in defence at the start of last season.

Chelsea will allow Trevoh Chalobah to leave once Wesley Fofana has signed.

The Chelsea academy product usually played on the right of the back three. However, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta also challenged for the spot.

At the end of the previous campaign, two of our first-team centre-backs left the club for free. Rudiger and Christensen were key members of Tuchel’s squad. With their departures, we lost depth in our backline.

However, Chelsea finally seem to be set to replace the German and Danish defenders. Kalidou Koulibaly has already signed for the Stamford Bridge side while the Fofana deal is close.

The Senegalese has partnered with Thiago Silva at the back at the start of the 2022/23 campaign. Azpilicueta and Reece James have been deployed alongside the two in the back three.

Chalobah seems to have gone down the pecking order. And if Chelsea reinforce the centre-back spot, there will be a lot of competition for places in Tuchel’s XI.

A loan move appears to be wise. The 23-year-old can have the opportunity to develop elsewhere. However, the Blues must not part ways with Chalobah permanently, considering the age of some of our defenders.
