Transfer News: RB Leipzig to sign Chelsea striker Timo Werner on a permanent deal
According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, RB Leipzig have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign talented German striker Timo Werner on a permanent deal with a move set to be completed shortly.
It was expected that the German club will sign Werner on a loan deal with an option to buy, but Romano claims that Leipzig have reached an agreement with the Blues to sign their former superstar forward on a permanent deal ahead of the current campaign.
@berger_pj (via Pys) [h/t Football. London] claims that the fee that two clubs have agreed for Timo Werner is around £25 million which is markedly lesser than what we signed him for from Leipzig back in 2020 but still substantial for what the player has produced in recent times.
Werner’s time at Chelsea has been anything but plain sailing with the German struggling to recapture the kind of form that he showed during his time in the Bundesliga. This has meant that he has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge eventually.
Even last season, the German really struggled to produce any kind of substantial output, especially considering the fact that Romelu Lukaku really struggled too and this gave Werner umpteen opportunities to show Thomas Tuchel what he is capable of.
In 37 matches across all competitions for Thomas Tuchel last season, Timo Werner scored 11 goals and provided six assists. Whilst these numbers don’t look horrendous, anyone who has followed Chelsea knows that the German failed to score when it mattered the most.
Thomas Tuchel did not pick Timo Werner for his first matchday squad against Everton in the match that the Blues won 1-0 thanks to a Jorginho penalty. It could have been due to the fact that a move is imminent for the German striker.
With a World cup later this year, Timo Werner will be hoping to recapture his best form back in Germany and make a pressing case to Hansi Flick when he selects the squad for the showdown in Qatar later this year. The talented attacker still has the chance to turn it around.

A player who was signed to huge hype, it is safe to say that Werner has not really worked out. Now, we are set to sell him back to where we bought him from for a bargain and it is safe to say that signing the German striker has been underwhelming.
