According to @JacobSteinberg (via Absolute Chelsea) [h/t Football. London], West Ham have enquired about a deal to sign talented Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher but both the Blues and the player are adamant in their stance to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Conor Gallagher is one of the most talented midfield prospects going around in English football. He is performing exceptionally well for quite some time now and had a great season out on loan at Crystal Palace last time around. The English midfielder has also had a good pre-season.
Thomas Tuchel really rates the young midfielder very highly and wants to include him in his plans for the current season. Gallagher was on the bench for Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Everton in their opening PL match and made a late appearance off the bench.
Such has been Gallagher’s performances in recent times that he now finds himself a regular in Gareth Southgate’s plans for the national team and if he can continue his performances in a similar vein, there is no doubt that he will be on that flight to Qatar later this year.
A product of the famed Cobham academy, anyone who has seen Gallagher play will know that the talented midfielder shows maturity beyond his age. He is extremely tireless, hardworking, has a good pass and can also pop in with goals and assists.
In 39 matches for the Eagles last season, the 22-year-old midfield superstar managed to score eight goals and provide five assists across all competitions. He was arguably Crystal Palace’s most important player and it is an impressive feat at such a young age.
After such an impressive season, it is only natural that many clubs in England are interested in Gallagher to sign him on loan and it looks like West Ham are the latest to join the list but Chelsea are in no mood to negotiate a deal for their star asset.
Hence, it looks like this is set to be yet another wild goose chase for the Hammers who were involved in a similar pursuit for Armando Broja earlier this summer. That move did not materialise and the Albanian is set to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Conor Gallagher is a huge prospect and he can be a great player for us. He is ready for the first team and Chelsea are right in their stance to keep him for the upcoming season.
