According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano via Twitter, French side OGC Nice are interested in Chelsea target Cesare Casadei. The Blues are in talks with Inter Milan for the 19-year-old midfielder.
Casadei is one of the hottest players in the European market and is turning heads with his performances. The Italy Under-19 international is yet to play for Inter’s senior team but is still one of the most sought-after players this summer.
The Blues have been investing heavily in their youth academy this summer under the new ownership. The club have brought in several young talents in what is a clear indication that Thomas Tuchel is not only building a team for the present but also one for the future.
Casadei, as such would make another fine addition to the youth academy. The Italian was in fine form last season when he scored 16 goals and notched up five assists in 39 games for both club and country’s youth sides.
A box-to-box midfielder, he is already a beast at such a young age. He was crowned as the young player of the year at Inter last year. This shows that the Italian club knows they have a gem in their hand. Tuchel has had his eyes on him for some time now as he could be the future of Chelsea’s midfield.
N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are still at their peak but are not getting any younger. Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour still have a lot to learn. Adding Casadei to the midfield sector would make it easy for the club to transition into a new midfield era. But the player will not come easy.
The Blues have seen two bids turned down for the midfielder. Chelsea will have to offer better terms if they want to land the player. And now they also face competition from Nice for his signature. With less than three weeks remaining before the market closes, Tuchel will have to act fast and smart to secure the signature of the young jewel.
Given how expensive players are now in the market, it is wise to bring them in young and develop them. Casadei has all qualities to lead the Chelsea midfield for years to come. The fans would be very happy if their club can land such a sought-after treasure.
